72 players were sold in the IPL 2024 Auction. The IPL Auction was conducted on Tuesday at the Coca Cola Arena in Dubai. This was the first time that an IPL auction was staged outside India, and also the first time it included spectators inside the auction arena.
The 20 crore barrier in an IPL auction was broken for the first time in the IPL auction. It happened twice in the IPL 2024 Auction.
There were some players who got more money than perhaps they had initially thought they’d bag. Some players even saw their previous IPL season salary get tripled or even more.
3 players whose IPL 2024 auction salary is more than tripled compared to their last IPL season salary:
Mitchell Starc – INR 5 crore in 2015
Mitchell Starc became the most expensive ever IPL player when KKR secured his services for INR 24.75 crore after winning the bidding war with Gujarat Titans. Starc returns to the IPL after 8 years.
He played for RCB in 2014 and 2015 when he was in his mid-20s. His price at RCB was INR 5 crore. This time, it’s almost five times!
Alzarri Joseph – 11.5 crore by RCB
Alzarri Joseph had a dream day in the IPL 2024 auction as RCB bought him for INR 11.5 crore. RCB were forced to buy Joseph at this high price after they failed to buy Pat Cummins.
Joseph is a two-time IPL winner. He won the IPL title in 2019 with Mumbai Indians and in 2022 with Gujarat Titans. His price at Gujarat Titans was INR 2.4 crore. This price of 11.5 crore by RCB is more than 4 times his salary at GT.
Daryl Mitchell – 14 crore by CSK
Daryl Mitchell’s excellent form during the World Cup 2023 – he scored 552 runs with two centuries against India – has been rewarded with a hefty paycheck in the IPL 2024 auction. And he goes to a franchise well-known to bring the best out of the players: Chennai Super Kings.
Daryl Mitchell made his IPL debut in 2022 for Rajasthan Royals, who had purchased him for only 75 lakhs. Thus, his price of 14 crore by CSK in IPL 2024 auction is more than 18 times his price at RR in 2022!
