The IND vs AUS T20I Series ended with the hosts winning the rubber by the scoreline 4-1. It was an entertaining IND vs AUS T20I Series series which included three last-over encounters. A Glenn Maxwell storm in the 3rd T20I had helped Australia win one game but the second-string Indian players proved a bit too much for the second-string Australian side.
While this series didn’t have much hype among the fans, as it came just after the World Cup 2023, it was an important series for the players who are on the fringes and the selectors who are looking to build up their squads for the T20 World Cup 2024 in June next year in the West Indies and the USA.
There were some impressive performers across both teams who would have laid strong claims for selection in next year’s T20 World Cup squads.
5 impressive performers in the IND vs AUS T20I Series that boosted their chances for T20 World Cup 2024 selection:
Ravi Bishnoi
Young leg-spinner Ravi Bishnoi has certainly pipped over senior leg-spinner Yuzvendra Chahal in India’s T20I team. Bishnoi is selected for the 3 T20Is this month in South Africa, while Chahal will make his return only in the ODIs.
Bishnoi ended up with the Man of the Series award for finishing as the leading wicket-taker of the IND vs AUS T20I Series. He took 9 wickets, which included plenty of top-order batters, including Travis Head in the 5th T20I
Axar Patel
It’s baffling to the fans that Axar Patel is not named in the T20I series in South Africa, and Ravindra Jadeja is the vice-captain for that series. Many fans believe that Axar is a much better T20 cricketer than Jadeja. Axar added more strength to his case in this series.
He picked 6 wickets and had an economy of only 6.2 which was brilliant in a high-scoring series. He bagged Man of the Match awards in the last two T20Is. Axar also played two crucial innings with the bat.
Jason Behrendorff
Jason Behrendorff was Australia’s best player in the IND vs AUS T20I Series. Behrendorff picked 6 wickets in 4 games and conceded at only 6.68 runs per over, while his teammates were all expensive. Behrendorff is known for his new-ball prowess, but in this series, he also showed his improved death bowling.
Rinku Singh
It seems very likely that Rinku Singh will make it in India’s T20 World Cup 2024 squad. After a thunderous IPL 2023 season with KKR, Rinku Singh played a few gems of knocks for India as a finisher. In this series, Rinku scored 105 runs at a strike rate of 175. He hit 13 fours and 4 sixes in the 60 balls he faced in this series.
Ruturaj Gaikwad
Ruturaj Gaikwad has laid down himself as a strong contender to challenge one of the two spots as an opener in India’s T20I team. Gaikwad hit a brilliant century in Guwahati and a fifty in Trivandrum. Gaikwad was the leading scorer of the IND vs AUS T20I Series with 223 runs at a strike rate of 159.
