Former Indian cricketer Virender Sehwag has expressed his disappointment after West Indies failed to qualify for the upcoming ODI World Cup 2023 for the first time in 48 years.
Yes, the unimaginable has happened. Scotland staged a major upset in the ongoing ICC World Cup Qualifiers on Saturday by defeating West Indies in a Super Six clash by 7 wickets. Windies were seen struggling, going from 81/6 to being all out for 181.
Brandon McMullen turned out to be the star with bat and ball as Scotland canceled the Windies player’s flights to India. Scotland will now face two crunch encounters, starting against hosts Zimbabwe on Tuesday.
Virender Sehwag Slammed West Indies
Meanwhile, as soon as the Windies crashed out from the tournament, social media was already buzzing with Tweets and posts. From cricketers and experts to fans, everyone took to their social media and shared their thoughts on Windies’ heartbreaking exit.
Among many, former Indian cricketer Virender Sehwag also took to his social media and slammed West Indies after their poor performance in the tournament’s group stage rounds. He wrote:
“What a shame. West Indies fail to qualify for the World cup. Just shows talent alone isn’t enough, need focus and good man management, free from politics. The only solace is there isn’t further low to sink from here.”

It has to be noted that Windies have a great history in the ICC tournaments, having won the first two editions of the ODI World Cup in 1975 and 1079 under the captaincy of Clive Llyod. They also reached the final stage of the 3rd World Cup in 1983, where the Indian cricket team won the historic tournament.
Since their 2016 T20 World Cup victory, Windies have been struggling to win the marquee tournament. They failed to qualify for the 2017 Champions Trophy, following which, they were ruled out of the 2019 World Cup and also were knocked out of the Super 12s of the 2021 T20 World Cup. Windies faced a first-round exit in the 2022 T20 World Cup. They touched the new low in the ongoing qualifiers round of WC 2023.
