The Pakistan captain and star batsman, Babar Azam, yet again failed to convert his half-century score into a hundred, and once again his slow knock was being criticized.
Even as Babar Azam has notched up three half-centuries in 6 innings in this World Cup 2023, the right-hander has been slow in his knock. Babar works on the modus operandi of setting himself in and then accelerating in the second half of the match.
However, today, against South Africa in Chennai, Babar Azam was dismissed in the 28th over after scoring 50 runs in 65 balls. On what was reported as a good batting surface, Babar and his fans were frustrated for the batsman getting out after having settled himself in for a big score.
South Africa needed to go upstairs to the third umpire with a review to overturn the on-field call of not out from the on-field umpire. One Pakistani fan though claimed that the third umpire wasn’t correct and gave Babar wrongly out.
Babar Azam was dismissed by wrist-spinner Tabraiz Shamsi. Babar tried to paddle Shamsi on the leg side by going low across the stumps and aiming for the fine leg region. However, he missed the ball and the ball brushed the glove of his thumb. Quinton de Kock took a good catch behind.
Even though the on-field umpire gave Babar not out, Shamsi and de Kock were confident and got the decision changed upon review.
One Babar fan, however, wasn’t satisfied with the third umpire’s decision. This fan posted a picture of the split screen on Twitter and captioned it: “clear gap hai yaar wtfff”
He then got totally roasted by fans on Twitter. Some fans sarcastically trolled him by saying that the BCCI had bought the umpires and that Babar is playing against more than just XI players.
A Babar Azam fan got trolled on Twitter for saying the third umpire made a wrong decision:
In 6 innings in the World Cup, Babar Azam has scored 207 runs at a poor strike rate of 79.
