Chennai Super Kings’ veteran batter Ambati Rayudu has issued a clarification about his latest tweet after fans associated the tweet with Gavaskar’s comments on Friday, April 28.
For the unversed, after Chennai’s loss to Rajasthan Royals in their previous game, Sunil Gavaskar had raised questions about the team’s decision to name Ambati as an Impact Player while not giving him sufficient playing time.
During the game, Rayudu was dismissed for a 2-ball duck, which ended in CSK’s 32-run defeat to RR. Ambati Rayudu was brought in as an impact Player but unfortunately, he failed to make an impact.
He walked out to bat at number 5 during the 11th over of the game, when CSK’s required run was above 10 runs per over. Rayudu managed to stay at the crease just for two deliveries and hit the 2nd one straight to the deep mid-wicket fielder on the delivery of R Ashwin.
Sunil Gavaskar Slammed Ambati Rayudu
While on the commentary during the game, former Indian cricketer and commentator Sunil Gavaskar was talking about how impact substitutions are not working for the batters. He had said:
“You got to field. You can’t just come out to bat and start hitting the ball. You can’t do that. We have seen that with Prithvi Shaw. He has just been coming out to bat without success. No fielding, no scoring. Rayudu is out for a second-ball duck,”
A day later after the commentary, Rayudu took to his social media and shared a cryptic tweet on his outings in IPL 2023. He wrote:
“In life and sport ups and downs are a constant part. We need to be positive and keeping working hard and things will turn around.. results are not always a measure of our effort. So always keeping smiling and enjoy the process.”

Rayudu Issued A Clarification
The tweet went viral in no time and was flooded with reactions from the fans, who felt that the tweet by the CSK batter was in response to Gavaskar’s comments on his failures as an impact player for MS Dhoni-led team.
Amidst all the rumors, Rayudu himself cleared the air on Twitter itself. Rayudu took to his Twitter and wrote:
“What nonsense my tweet has nothing to do with the great Mr Gavaskar’s comments.. his opinions are well respected and in regards to my fielding . A player doesn’t decide if he wants to field or not.”
