Arshdeep Singh Made A Blockbuster Debut In County Cricket
Yes, Arshdeep, who wasn’t considered for the Test series and one-day internationals against the West Indies, has grabbed all the limelight with his sensational performance in his first County appearance.
After impressing one and all with his stint with Punjab Kings in the Indian Premier League in 2019 season, Arshdeep went on to represent the Indian cricket team in the limited-overs format, including the T20 World Cup last year. However, he hasn’t had a lot of experience in red-ball cricket. He has picked 25 wickets at an average of 23.84 and an economy of 2.92 in the seven first-class matches before he joined Kent.
Speaking about his performance, in his maiden game in the County, Arshdeep dismissed 4 batters of Surrey, playing for Kent. He has been regularly ignored by the national selection committee in the last few series.
He represented Punjab Kings in the 2023 edition of the Indian Premier League and gave a decent performance. His absence from the Windies tour was questioned by several experts and former India players.
Arshdeep’s last ODI encounter was against New Zealand at the Hagley Oval in November 2022. He has just played 3 ODIs and is yet to pick up a wicket in the format.

Sunil Gavaskar’s Advice For Arshdeep
Meanwhile, former Indian captain Sunil Gavaskar offered a piece of invaluable advice to Arshdeep Singh following his non-selection for the Windies tour. He advised the 24-year-old to keep taking wickets in clusters in the domestic circuit. He said:
“Sometimes maybe being left out of the team is also a great incentive to try and pick up heaps of wickets. Maybe that is what Arshdeep needs to do. He needs to pick 5-fors continuously and then he will be automatically picked for the team,”
He added: “He is the future in all formats. He has already started to do little bit well in England in county cricket. Just like Jaspreet Bumrah came on as a T20 bowler and went on to spearhead the Indian bowling attack. Arshdeep Singh is somebody who can play all formats of the game and you need to encourage him to do that,”
