Sadeera Samarawickrama smashed 93 runs in 71 balls to fire Sri Lanka to a total of 257/9 against Bangladesh in the Asia Cup 2023 Super 4 clash
Sadeera Samarawickrama led the way for Sri Lanka as the defending champions scored 257/9 against Bangladesh in the Super 4 clash of Asia Cup 2023 on Saturday, September 9.
Dasun Shanaka’s men hosted the Bangla Tigers in Colombo as both sides looked for the Super 4 stage. Shakib Al Hasan won the toss and elected to bowl first however the decision didn’t exactly pay dividends as Sri Lanka hammered riding on Samarawickrama’s knock of 93 runs in 71 balls.
Pathum Nissanka and Dimuth Karunaratne stitched together an opening stand of 34 runs after being invited to bat first. Hasan Mahmud drew first blood for Bangladesh when he dismissed Karunaratne for 18, but Nissanka continued to his purple patch by smashing 40 as he narrowly missed out on a half-century.

Kusal Mendis also continued his glorious run with the bat, having missed a century in the last game as Sri Lanka eliminated Afghanistan, Mendis smashed a fifty but would be kicking himself as he failed to capitalise on the knock and post a big score.
Samarawickrama then kept the scoreboard ticking after Mendis and Charith Asalnka departed, the youngster took matters into his own hands. He had a handy partnership with captain Dasun, who added 24 runs to the cause, before the 28-year-old wreaked havoc with his stellar knock of 93, as he got out on the last ball of the inning, trying to smash a six.
Mahmud delivered another masterclass, as he picked up three wickets, while Taskin Ahmed and Shoriful Islam also chipped in with two scalps each. Having lost their previous Super 4 clash against Pakistan, the fixture against Sri Lanka is a do-or-die of sorts for Shakib’s men otherwise they might find it difficult to finish in the top two places and remain in the hunt for the Asia Cup final.
