The ICC World Cup 2023 is just a couple of months away and the excitement regarding the same has been increasing with every passing day. The much-awaited tournament will kickstart with a blockbuster clash between England and New Zealand.
Going into the marquee tournament, the Indian cricket team will be the hot favorites, however, not many have given them a fair chance to win the world cup because of their previous outings since 2013. Team India lost won an ICC title in 2013 under the guidance of MS Dhoni and ever since then, they have lost every ICC tournament across formats.
ODI World Cup 2023 will be a great opportunity for the Men in Blue to end their title drought as the tournament will be held at their home.
R Ashwin Talked About India’s Chances Of Winning The ODI World Cup 2023
Speaking about the same, Ashwin admitted that India is a strong team and said that it’s ridiculous to answer the question about them winning the title. Speaking on his YouTube video, R Ashwin said:
“In fact, we went into the 2019 World Cup as strong favorites. But all the teams have had equal chances during every ICC event. If you ask me, any cricket match starts 50:50. But India do start as favorites ahead of this 2023 World Cup.”
“Of course, the whole social media buzz will be about whether India will be able to get an ICC trophy. We have been following this theme for so many years now of asking, “Can India end the ICC Trophy drought?” If you ask me, this is ridiculous, guys. India is a strong team. Except for a few factors, India has a great chance this time around.”
Further, Ashwin highlighted the key factor that will be there in the World Cup. He said that he wanted the games to start around 12:30 to ignore the dew factor. R Ashwin said:
“But one thing that I wished for when it comes to the timing of the tournament didn’t materialize. I wanted all the games to start at 11.30 AM or 12 PM to completely negate the dew factor. See, this World Cup will take place in October.”
He added: “Will there be a chance of dew during this time? Usually, the World Cup won’t take place during this period. Even in 2011, it took place just before the summer. It started in Feb and ended in the first week of April and later, we had the IPL that year,”
