The Delhi Capitals (DC) suffered a torrid IPL 2023 season as the David Warner-led unit finished 9th in the 10-team tournament. DC had missed Rishabh Pant, their skipper and wicket-keeper, due to an unfortunate accident last December and that proved to be a massive miss as DC couldn’t really nail down on their alternative wicket-keeper.
Moreover, DC’s selection and batting order planning by head coach Ricky Ponting came under heavy scrutiny and criticism, especially in the case of the in-form Axar Patel not being promoted up in the order by their coach.
There have been multiple reports suggesting the Delhi Capitals owners were reportedly displeased by Ricky Ponting and could sack him ahead of the IPL 2024 auction, and perhaps give the reins to Sourav Ganguly, who is currently their mentor.
However, DC co-owner Parth Jindal put all those speculations to bed on Wednesday (June 14) and confirmed Ricky Ponting to continue in his role next season. On Twitter, Jindal gave his confidence to Ricky Ponting and Sourav Ganguly to continue in their duties.
Taking to Twitter, Jindal tweeted: “Preparations for next years @IPL are underway here @DelhiCapitals, along side @SGanguly99 and @RickyPonting we assure the fans that Kiran and I are working hard to get back to where we want this franchise to be and that is right at the very top.”

Ricky Ponting has been the head coach of Delhi Capitals since 2018 and was roped in for a long-term project. That project took a hit when Shreyas Iyer left DC after DC decided to continue with Rishabh Pant as their captain after the wicket-keeper had led them in the playoffs in the absence of Iyer when Iyer was injured in 2021. Then, Pant missing the IPL 2023 season was another major setback for the Delhi-based franchise.
