The drama of the retention day of IPL 2024, on Sunday, November 26, unfolded stunningly, and with an unforeseen twist of the trade of Cameron Green to RCB from Mumbai Indians.
While fans had been pondering whether MI would trade Cameron Green to Gujarat Titans for Hardik Pandya, this move to RCB came out of the blue for the fans. And it seems even for the Aussie all-rounder, who had apparently posted on Twitter his picture in Mumbai Indians jersey from last season, tweeting that he’s looking forward for next season in MI colors, but soon deleted that tweet after his news of being traded away to RCB was confirmed.
Mumbai Indians got back their star all-rounder, Hardik Pandya, who spent 7 seasons from 2015 to 2021 at MI. MI had released Pandya and he was roped in by Gujarat Titans in IPL 2022, and was appointed captain. Hardik led GT to the title in 2022 and came within touching distance in IPL 2023, but lost the final to CSK.
Initially, it was announced that GT had retained Pandya, but at 7.31 PM, Cricbuzz reported that Hardik has officially been transferred to Mumbai. Sometime after, it was confirmed that Cameron Green had been traded away to RCB by MI to make space for Pandya and to have some purse to buy players in the IPL 2024 auction on December 19.
Getting Pandya cost MI INR 15 crore, while trading away Cameron Green to RCB released INR 17.5 crore from their purse. So MI will go into the IPL 2024 auction with a purse of 18 crore.
RCB fans didn’t see this move coming.
This led to massive trolled of RCB with funny memes on the trading of Cameron Green:
