Defeating all odds, the Chennai Super Kings have secured a record-equalling fifth Indian Premier League (IPL) title with a magnificent victory over the Gujarat Titans at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad.
Chasing a revised target of 171 runs off 15 overs to lift the title, Ruturaj Gaikwad and Devon Conway gave the team a perfect start getting 72 runs off the first 6 overs.
Chennai Super Kings Won The IPL 2023 Final
Noor Ahmed provided his side with a much-needed breakthrough as he dismissed Ruturaj Gaikwad in the 7th over with the batter managing 26 runs off 16 deliveries. The bowler gave another blow to CSK as he dismissed Devon Conway for 47 in the final delivery from the same over.
Shivam Dube and Ajinkya Rahane then joined hands and tried to get CSK back on track. Rahane played a crucial knock as he smashed 16 runs off Josh Little’s over but Noor Ahmed once again pulled the game for Gujarat with just 5 runs off his final over, finishing the game with the figures of 2-17 in his 3 overs.
Shivam Dube, however, held his nerves and pulled 13 runs off Rashid Khan’s 2nd over bringing CSK’s total to 112/2 in 10 overs. The team needed 59 runs off 30 balls to win. Mohit Sharma, who has been Hardik Pandya’s go-to bowler was brought into the play and he didn’t disappoint his skipper. He gave a major breakthrough by dismissing Ajinkya Rahane for 27 off 13.
Soon Ambati Rayudu was dismissed after playing a crucial knock of 19 runs off 8 balls. Fans were left heartbroken when Dhoni was dismissed on the very next bowl, with CSK now needing 21 runs off the last 2 overs.
Mohit Sharma gave a hard time to CSK as he held his nerve giving just 1 run off his first 2 deliveries. The game came down to 12 needed off 4 deliveries, Mohit Sharma continued with his brilliance by giving just 2 runs off the next two deliveries to leave CSK needing 10 runs off just 2 deliveries.
However, Jadeja smashed him for a stunning six and a four off the last ball to win the game for Chennai Super Kings.
Meanwhile, fans on social media went berserk as CSK won another title under the leadership of MS Dhoni.
