‘I Blame The…’: Temba Bavuma Clarifies He ‘Wasn’t Sleeping’ After Pic from Pre World Cup Captains’ Meet Goes Viral

South Africa skipper Temba Bavuma has finally broken the silence on his viral image doing the rounds on the internet wherein the Proteas’ skipper could be seen dozing off. Images from the captains’ meet ahead of the ICC ODI World Cup 2023 went viral online like wildfire, however, Bavuma has clarified that he ‘wasn’t sleeping’.

The 33-year-old took to X (formerly Twitter) to drop the truth bomb as he reacted to his viral image revealing that he wasn’t sleeping, the images which spread on social media have been captured from such an angle that it appeared as if Bavuma had dozed off.

England’s Barmy Army fan page, who are well renowned for their antics on social media shared the image of Bavuma, after which he issued a clarification on the matter.

“Temba Bavuma has just fallen asleep in the World Cup captain’s conference,” read Barmy Army’s post, to which Bavuma replied, “I blame the camera angle, I wasn’t sleeping.”

Meanwhile, all the ten captains of the teams participating in the ODI World Cup in India had a photoshoot after the press conference wherein they were bombarded with plenty of questions.

Pakistan captain Babar Azam talked about the warm welcome they received in India, Rohit Sharma gave his verdict on the controversial finish in the 2019 ODI World Cup final wherein England prevailed only because they had scored more boundaries.

On the eve of the World Cup opener, Rohit talked about how he felt lucky to be leading the Indian team but admitted that there will be huge pressure on his shoulders regarding the fans’ expectations during a home World Cup.

“Very lucky to be leading this team in the World Cup. I have seen the history of the tournament being played and the people who have taken part in it. So, I feel lucky to be leading India in this World Cup,” said Rohit.

“At the same time, it’s quite exciting and speaking of pressure, all these guys are used to that; whether they are playing in India or away. The pressure is never going to leave a sportsperson as long as you play the sport. So, keep it aside and focus on the job at hand. I know it’s very easy to say that but I’m sure, we all have prepared well which gives a lot of confidence going into any game,” the 36-year-old added.
