In a recent interview, club president Laporta also reassured Barcelona fans that Xavi is here to stay, and that the Catalans are fully committed to seeing through the rough patch Barcelona seem to be facing currently.
It seems like Catalonia will house one of their all-time greats for a little while longer, as in a recent interview Barcelona president Joan Laporta reaffirmed the faith the club has in their current manager and club legend Xavi Hernandez, despite the club’s dip in form recently.
“I feel protected by the club. I talk to the president often and to Deco. They know how we work and I feel that I have all their confidence”, said Xavi.

“We are with Xavi. 100 percent guaranteed, out support will be total. He’s our manager and we are proud to have him as our coach,” said Laporta.

Barcelona have been having a lacklustre season till now, to say the least. The defending La Liga champions have been finding it difficult to recapture the chemistry that got them the title last year and currently lie in 4th place in the league, four points behind surprise table-toppers Girona.
They have managed to win just two matches out of their last five outing across all competitions with losses coming against arch-rivals Real Madrid in the league and against Shakhtar Donetsk in Europe.
Their latest misfire came in their last fixture against Rayo Vallecano, where the Catalan giants could only muster up a 1-1- draw. Xavi was unhappy with the result and questioned the mentality of his players as he felt that the team is lacking a killer instinct.
At a post-match conference, Xavi said; “I think it was a game of two halves. In the first, we dominated but didn’t really go for the game, we were not aggressive. We lacked that mentality to go for it. If we want to win trophies this season, we have to change our mentality.”
Barcelona’s Champions League campaign, although off to a good start, lies in a delicate balance with two matchdays to go. They are currently first in their group, yet tied on points with Porto, who they will be facing this week.

With third places Shakhtar Donetsk just three points off the top spot, Barcelona are in dire need of two wins in order to secure their round-of-16 qualification and to progress further into the tournament.
One aspect to applaud about Barca’s season so far has been the resurgence of young talent who have stepped up and making big strides for the side. With established youngsters such as Gavi, the likes of Lamine Yamal and Fermin Lopez have showcased moments and glimpses of genius for the club.
“I firmly believe that we will play well again and get the results. If I didn’t believe in it I wouldn’t be here”, said Xavi.
