Ravichandran Ashwin not finding a spot in the playing XI for the World Test Championship (WTC) final against Australia has raised many eyebrows. Several experts and former cricketers have openly criticized team management’s decision to leave Ashwin out of the playing XI.
Iceland Cricket Took A Dig At Team India For Dropping Ravichandran Ashwin
Team India had to choose one spinner in order to incorporate four seamers in the line-up and as a result Ravichandran Ashwin had to warm the bench.
While the off-spinner’s absence remains one of the biggest talking points of the game, Iceland Cricket via their official Twitter handle took a dig at the Indian cricket team’s management for dropping Ashwin.
In their Tweet, Iceland Cricket slammed India for not including Ravichandran Ashwin in the playing XI by taking a dig at IPL’s Impact Player rule. The tweet read:
“The Aussies have done well so far. But no bother. India can just get Ashwin, the world’s number one bowler, on this afternoon to trouble all those Aussie lefties. If a pitch seams, it spins, so he’ll sort it out. Oh, did someone tell India there is no impact player in Tests?”

During the toss, host Nasser Hussain asked Rohit on how tough the call was to leave out ‘world’s no.1 bowler’ – Ravichandran Ashwin, who has 869 points to his name and is sitting at the top in the ICC Test Rankings. Responding to this, Rohit said:
“It’s always tough. He’s been a match-winner for us, over the course of many years. So, leaving him out was tough. But you got to do the things that are needed for the team. So, eventually we came up with that decision,”
He added: “The conditions and also the weather being overcast. The pitch won’t change too much. Four seamers and one spinner. The spinner is Jadeja,”
