Irfan Pathan, the former Indian pacer and commentator, hailed Avesh Khan for his impressive comeback in international cricket. Avesh achieved his first-ever four-wicket haul in the 1st ODI between India and South Africa, causing significant disruption to the home side with his impressive combination of pace and accuracy.
Under the leadership of KL Rahul, the Indian cricket team had an outstanding beginning to their ODI series in South Africa, with Avesh Khan and Arshdeep Singh delivering a fiery performance in Johannesburg. Mukesh Kumar provided a strong start with the ball for Team India. Despite Proteas’ captain Aiden Markram choosing to bat first after winning the toss, Arshdeep Singh dismantled the top order by claiming the initial four wickets.
Avesh Khan quickly joined the party and proved to be nearly unstoppable as the first-change bowler, contributing significantly to India’s bowling dominance.
Avesh began his impactful performance by claiming the crucial wicket of Aiden, inducing an inside edge resulting in the dismissal for 12 runs. Following that, he showcased his skill by dismissing Wiaan Mulder for a duck with a delivery that moved sharply off the seam and hit the batter’s pads.
Avesh Khan claimed the wickets of Aiden Markram, Wiaan Mulder, David Miller, and Keshav Maharaj during his spell in the 1st ODI between India and South Africa. He bowled a tight spell of 8 overs, conceding only 27 runs while taking four wickets.
Avesh Khan has entered the record books as the ninth Indian pacer to claim more than three wickets in a One Day International (ODI) match in South Africa, with his compatriot Arshdeep also achieving this feat. Avesh now shares the joint third-best ODI bowling figures by an Indian pacer in South Africa, matching Ajit Agarkar.
Irfan Pathan Hailed Avesh Khan For His Memorable Comeback
Meanwhile, social media has been buzzing with reactions from the fans and cricketers. Among many, former Indian cricketer Irfan Pathan also took to his social media and hailed Khan for his powerful performance. He wrote:
“Arshdeep Singh and Avesh Khan impressed me the most. I am happy for Avesh as he had disappeared from the international circuit. But the way he made a comeback it’s impressive,” said Irfan Pathan in a conversation with Star Sports.
