Punjab Kings (PBKS) pacer Kagiso Rabada played his first match of the IPL 2023 season on Thursday, against Gujarat Titans (GT) in Mohali. With his first wicket of the night, Rabada created a historic record in the IPL by becoming the fastest bowler to take 100 IPL wickets.
He achieved this feat in his 64th IPL match, going past the previous record holder Lasith Malinga, who took 70 IPL matches to grab 100 scalps in the tournament.
Following Rabada and Malinga are SRH’s Bhuvneshwar Kumar and Harshal of RCB.

Kagiso’s IPL career started in 2017 for Delhi. From 2017 to 2021, he featured for the Delhi Capitals (he missed the 2018 season due to injury) before being bought by Punjab Kings in IPL 2022 mega-auction for INR 9.25 crore.
Rabada’s best season came in IPL 2020 when he snapped up 30 wickets helping DC reach the final, which they lost to Mumbai Indians. In 2019 he took 25 wickets and in 2022 he took 23 wickets. He has missed the first 3 matches for Punjab Kings, but Nathan Ellis did a good job in his absence.
Kagiso Rabada sends back W Saha early
Meanwhile, PBKS Speedster took the wicket of GT opener Wriddhiman Saha to complete his 100 IPL wickets. However, by then Saha had got off to a flier, scoring 30 runs in 19 balls in the chase of 154.

Asked to bat first, no Punjab batsman could get going today and none of them reached a fifty. Matt Short was Punjab’s top-scorer with 36 runs while 4 other batters reached the 20s. For GT, Mohit Sharma took 2 wickets while the other 4 bowlers took one wicket each.
