Nick Kyrgios was in the zone as he took the opening set of the Wimbledon men’s singles final with Novak Djokovic — but it did not take long for things to unravel.
The Australian started to lose his patience midway through the second after he was broken by Djokovic and an unruly fan was only making things worse for Kyrgios in the third.
The 27-year-old challenged chair umpire Renaud Lichtenstein to kick out a drunk woman who he claimed was constantly speaking to him in the middle of games.
RECAP: Kyrgios falls in epic Wimbledon final as Djoker has last laugh
Here is a full transcript of what was said:
KYRGIOS: “It shouldn’t be coming down to your opinion. She is distracting me when I am serving in a Wimbledon final, when there is no bigger occasion. You didn’t believe me. She did it again and nearly cost me the game.”
LICHTENSTEIN: “I do believe you.”
KYRGIOS: “But why is she still here? She’s drunk out of her mind in the first row speaking to me in the middle of a game. What’s acceptable?”
LICHTENSTEIN: “Nothing is acceptable.”
KYRGIOS: “OK, so kick her out.”
LICHTENSTEIN: “I don’t know which one it is.”
KYRGIOS: “I know exactly which one it is.”
LICHTENSTEIN: “So, tell me.”
KYRGIOS: “It’s the one in the dress with the… the one who looks like she’s had around 700 drinks, bro. She’s talking to me every time in the point.”
Speaking on Channel 9, Sam Groth said Kyrgios had to go into the fourth set with a “different mindset” to put what unfolded in the third behind him.

“It was a tough early going on serve for Nick,” he said.
“Got through a couple of early holds. But then the conversation really started with the crowd. It started with the umpire.
“As you said, he tried to have a spectator removed. He was unhappy with his box. He wants them standing up. It is about what is happening between the points and not the tennis. He got a code violation at 2-2 and broken after being up 40-0.
“Novak Djokovic is letting Nick do all the talking right now.”
That is exactly what Djokovic wanted and Jelena Dokic called on Kyrgios to let his tennis do the talking instead, like he did in the first set.
“He has just unravelled a little bit here in this third set,” she said.

“I think he really just needs to regroup. He still chatting to himself. He really needs to stay more calm here, composed. Forget about that third set and try to restart in what he did in that first set.
“It comes down to his serve. He needs to serve well. Even that game when he was broken at 4-4, he had 40-0. He needs to make sure that he puts those games away and put some kind of pressure on Djokovic.
“I think he really needs to stay really calm and composed and maybe try and keep the talk a little bit more under control early on.”
