Afghanistan’s star all-rounder Rashid Khan once again stole all the limelight as he rattled the stumps of the Sri Lanka National Cricket Team skipper Dasun Shanaka at the Gaddafi Stadium in Lahore on Tuesday, September 05.
Rashid Khan Rattles Dasun Shanaka’s Stumps
The Sri Lankan captain failed miserably with the bat in the crucial Asia Cup 2023 clash against the Afghans. He only scored 5 runs off 8 balls, smashing one boundary before he was dismissed and sent back to the hut. Dasun’s wicket came on the third ball of the 40th over when Rashid Khan bowled a 96kph googly that was tossed up. Shanaka tried to play a sweep shot but he completely missed it and the ball spun past his bat and pads to shatter the stumps.

Rashid Khan went wicketless in the previous game against Bangladesh, made a comeback, and picked up two wickets. Besides Shanaka, Rashid Khan also dismissed Charith Asalanka, on the other hand, Afghanistan’s Gulbadin Naib rattled Sri Lanka’s middle order. However, Sri Lanka’s lower order helped them to a challenging total of 291/8.
Afgahanistan had a negative run rate of -1.780, therefore they not just needed a win over Sri Lanka but they needed a win in just 37.1 overs to improve their net run rate and qualify for the next round of the ongoing Asia Cup 2023. However, they eventually failed to chase the total and lost the game by 2 runs.
