Former Australian captain Ricky Ponting encountered an unfortunate incident when he was sharing his analytical views after Day 1 of the fifth Ashes 2023 Test series was wrapped up at the Oval. Ricky Ponting was doing live commentary on Sky Sports when some English fans started pelting grapes at him, as per a report by the Sun.
England Fans Pelted Grapes At Ricky Ponting
The rude gesture by the home supporters didn’t go down well with Ponting, who was left fuming. The cricketer-turned-commentator was standing in front of the broadcaster’s set at the edge of the field. This is when the fans pelted fruity bombs from the stands, that landed directly in front of Ponting’s feet.
Ian Ward, who was the host of that segment, tried to take the matter lightly by laughing it off, but Ricky Ponting found nothing funny about the incident. He denied to let it lie while giving a cold stare at the English crowd. The World Cup-winning captain also vowed to find out the culprits behind the grape attack. Ponting said:
“I have just been hit by grapes. I wouldn’t mind finding out who were those actually,”
The video of the incident has been going viral on the internet. Watch it here:
Hi @piersmorgan & @TheBarmyArmy
Is this within the spirit of the game?

Talking about the ongoing game, the Australian cricket team will resume Day 2 on 61 for one with Usman Khawaja on 26 off 75 and Marnus Labuschagne on 2 off 23. Australia is still 222 runs away from taking a lead in the first innings of the Test match.
Australia has already retained the Ashes after the final day of the 4th Test match in Manchester last week was washed out due to rain resulting in a drawn match.
