With the ODI World Cup 2023 just around the corner, the playing xi combination for the Indian cricket team might become a big headache for the team management. Team India has failed to zero down on a batter for the Number 4 position because of multiple injury issues in the team. Now when the World Cup is just 2 months away, question marks remain over the availability of Shreyas Iyer and KL Rahul.
Shikhar Dhawan Picks No. 4 For Team India
Meanwhile, veteran Indian opener Shikhar Dhawan has picked the best number 4 for the Indian cricket team for the upcoming ODI World Cup 2023.
As per Dhawan, Suryakumar Yadav seems a good option since he is experienced and has been playing international cricket for a while now. Speaking to PTI, Dhawan opened up on India’s No. 4 issue. He said:
“I would go with Surya at four as he is an experienced player and has been playing international cricket for a while,”
Shikhar Dhawan was also asked which Indian batters he is looking forward to seeing in the World Cup. Responding to this, Dhawan named young opener Shubman Gill and skipper Rohit Sharma. He said:
“Also, really looking forward to seeing how Shubman Gill does in the World Cup. Another batter to watch out for will be Rohit Sharma as he did exceptionally well in the last World Cup,”
Dhawan On India’s Chances Of Winning The ODI World Cup 2023
When asked about India’s chances of winning the ODI World Cup 2023, Dhawan said:
“We have got a very good side which has the right blend of experience and youth. We will have the home advantage. We know the grounds and pitches and that is going to come in very handy.”
Shikhar Dhawan is currently out of the scheme of things as far as international cricket is concerned. He last played for the Indian cricket team in December 2022 during the ODI series in Bangladesh. When asked about how he is keeping himself busy away from the game, Dhawan said:
“It is important to be productive. We live quite a high-paced life, especially when you are playing all formats like I used to at one point. Now I have enough time, so I keep myself involved with my business interests.”
