[Video] David Warner Played A Brilliant Switch-Hit In His Last Test Innings

In his last innings, David Warner batted like he has done throughout his Test career, especially in home conditions. The left-hander entertained his home crowd, who had come in huge numbers at the SCG on Saturday to see their local boy bow out from the longest format, with attacking cricket and some funky shots.

In the chase of 130 runs on a tricky pitch against Pakistan, Warner knew he had to attack from the onset before the pitch deteriorated further. The southpaw cracked 7 fours in his entertaining knock of 57 runs in 75 balls to put Australia on the brink of victory, before being dismissed by off-spinner Sajid Khan.

While his next target is the IPL 2024 and the T20 World Cup, Warner showed some glimpse of his T20 mode when he stroked an innovative switch-hit to Sajid Khan. With two slips in place and no third-man, Warner targetted the vacant third-man region; the switch-hit also allowed him to hit with the turn to Sajid, who was bowling from around the wicket angle.

David Warner reversed his stance and became a right-hander. To a full ball, then, in the position of a right-handed batsman, he swept with nigh-perfect connection and timing on it. The ball raced away to the fence, leaving the commentators, the SCG crowd and Sajid Khan dazed by Warner’s innovativeness and attacking mindset even in his last Test knock.

Australia pocketed the game by 8 wickets and the series 3-0. Pakistan’s search for a Test match win in Australia extends to 29 years.

David Warner had a fairytale ending to his Test career, and possibly ODI career as well. Australia retained the Ashes in England last year, won the WTC Final defeating India, won the World Cup 2023, defeating hosts India in the final, and now defeated Pakistan 3-0.

Warner goes out from Test cricket with 8786 runs in 112 Tests at an average of 44, notching up 26 centuries and 3 double centuries.
