Former India captain Virat Kohli has reportedly made a massive donation of INR 30 crore for the relief funds and victims of the Odisha train accident that happened a few night ago.
The tragic train accident in Odisha, which resulted in the death of over 200 people while injuring more than 600, took place in the Balasore district, as three trains derailed one on top of another in a disastrous sequence.
The train accident happened near the Bahanaga Baazar station in Balasore district, which is about 250 km south of Kolkata and 170 km north of Bhubaneswar, at around 7 pm on Friday, forcing the Railway Ministry to order a probe into the matter. Multiple coaches of the 12864 Bengaluru-Howrah Superfast Express, on the way to Howrah, went off the track and fell on adjacent tracks.
Some railway officials claimed that the accident happened due to a technical error.
Among many dignitaries, Virat Kohli had tweeted to offer his condolences to the victims of the crash and their families.
“Saddened to hear about the tragic train accident in Odisha. My thoughts and prayers go out to the families who lost their loved ones and wishing a speedy recovery to the injured,” Virat Kohli had tweeted.
After his tweet, reports said that Kohli has offered INR 30 crore for the victims of the railway accident in Odisha.
Meanwhile, Virat Kohli is in London for the WTC Final 2023
The 34-year-old, who has amassed 8416 runs in 108 Tests at an average of 48, comprising 28 Test centuries to his name, would want to help India win the WTC Final 2023 and etch his name in history books, thus ending India’s decade-long wait of an ICC title.
At the Oval, though,Kohli has an ordinary record: average of 28 in 3 Tests at The Oval with a solitary fifty in 6 innings. In England, too, his record isn’t great: a mediocre 33 with 2 hundreds and 5 fifties in 31 innings.
Nonetheless, Virat has been in sensational form this year, having hit a century vs Australia in the Ahmedabad Test, and is coming off a prolific IPL 2023 season.
