Former India opener Virender Sehwag has made a strong statement regarding the comparison between KL Rahul and Sanju Samson.
KL Rahul is currently out of the Indian Test team but is still a crucial part of the white-ball teams, including being the number 4/5 slot in the ODI side. Sanju Samson, on the other hand, is not a certain starter in any format.
He did well in ODIs and T20Is last year in the chances that he got, but an injury at the start of the year meant that he didn’t get to play much this year for India.
He’s got back well in the IPL 2023: in 5 innings, Sanju Samson has scored 157 runs at an average of 31 and strike rate of 165 with two fifties. Recently, his blockbuster knock of 60 runs off 32 balls earned him plenty of plaudits.
I believe KL Rahul is far better than Sanju Samson: Virender Sehwag
Yet, for Virender Sehwag, it is KL Rahul who is “far better” than Samson. Sehwag cited that Rahul has done well in his opportunities for India, including hitting centuries away from home.
“KL Rahul is back in form. He scored runs in the previous match. Yes, his strike rate may not have met people’s expectations, but his form is a great sign,” Sehwag said on Cricbuzz ahead of the clash between KL Rahul’s LSG and Sanju Samson’s RR in Jaipur.
“If you talk about establishing yourself in the Indian team, I believe KL Rahul is far better than Sanju Samson. He has played Test matches and scored hundreds in many countries. He has performed well in ODIs, both as an opener and in the middle order, and has also scored runs in T20 cricket,” Sehwag added.
Sanju Samson and KL Rahul both failed to make a big impression in their match in Jaipur. Rahul was slow to start off and didn’t get going, before being dismissed for 39 runs off 32 balls while Samson got run out for only 2 runs.
